Moonie is the absolute light of my life. As the daughter of our beloved Onyx, she was born into a world of love, but her journey was a fight from the very first breath.

Born the smaller of twin girls, Moonie faced an uphill battle. When her sister, Star, accidentally injured Onyx’s teat, the situation became critical.

Star monopolized the only healthy milk source, and Onyx—our "love bug"—faced a life-threatening risk of infection. While we stepped in to help, Moonie struggled. She lagged behind in her milestones and battled internal parasites that her delicate system couldn't handle with standard chemicals.

We had to "make a plan," turning to natural medicine and round-the-clock care. Throughout it all, Onyx was a hero, refusing to push her weaker daughter away and trusting us completely to help her girls flourish.

Because we fought so hard for her survival, Moonie and I developed a bond that is hard to put into words. Today, she is a beautiful, healthy girl, though she remains small. In a different life, she would have been culled for that smallness, but here, she is a queen.

She has a permanent twinkle in her eye and zero shame when it comes to claiming my time. She will jump on me for attention or use her hoof to "pummel" me if I don’t immediately acknowledge her. She doesn't just seek out treats; she seeks me out. She navigates the big goats with a calm assurance, knowing she is exactly where she belongs.

She is a constant reminder of why we do this; she isn't just a rescue, she is a daughter of this sanctuary, and the bond we share is written in every extra mile we walked to get her healthy. 

No day is complete without a special "Moonie moment." We are so proud she is part of the Besida family—where no one is left behind.
