Meet Chiara: The Tiny Tyke Who Chose Her Own Path

Chiara arrived at Besida as a heartbreak waiting to happen. Too young to be alone and having missed the vital lessons only a mother goat can teach, she was a tiny soul in a big, confusing world. She wouldn't take a bottle, and for a while, we weren't sure she would ever figure out how to be a "real" goat.

After a few days of 24-hour house-duty and a gourmet buffet of molasses and hay, Chiara’s fierce independence finally kicked in. Most kids would have stayed close to their human "moms," but Chiara looked at our big, intimidating herd and said, "I want to be with them."

She didn't want the safety of a separate pen. She wanted the herd. Watching this small girl navigate the ranks and claim her rightful place among the adults was nothing short of mind-blowing. She proved to us that resilience doesn't have a size requirement.

Chiara has grown into a magnificent, independent adult, but she hasn't forgotten the humans who cheered her on. When the mood strikes her, she’ll wander over to use you as her favorite "tree," rubbing her face against your legs or neck. Chiara is a daily reminder that with the right support, no animal is ever "too far gone" to find their way home. She reminds us constantly that no animal should ever be left behind.
