Meet Aimee (Our Resilient "Little Lady")

When Aimee first arrived at Besida, she was a shadow of a goat. A tiny Dwarf goat riddled with internal parasites and paralyzed by fear, her condition was critical. Her FAMACHA score (the measure of anemia) was dangerously low—the kind of level that keeps sanctuary directors up at night.

We immediately went into high gear. From specialized goat feed and herbal boosters to a buffet of fresh fruits and vegetables, we were determined to swing her health back into the "green."

The "Gulp" Moment

Three months into her recovery, we noticed something we hadn't expected: Aimee was pregnant.

It was a "gulp" moment for the team. When you’re treating a goat in crisis, you use every tool available, but pregnancy adds a layer of worry. We spent long nights wondering how the interventions—both herbal and chemical—might affect her unborn baby. We watched, we waited, and we worried.

A Natural Born Mother

We needn't have doubted her. Aimee proved to be a powerhouse. She handled a perfectly natural birth, producing a healthy, beautiful baby boy whom she raised with absolute "style" and grace.

As we monitored the new mom and her kid, something magical happened. The girl who used to bolt at the sight of a human started to linger. First, it was a curious sniff. Then, a hoof placed gently on a knee for a treat. Finally, she began to lean into the touch she once feared.

The Road Ahead

Today, "Ampie" is the picture of health. As one of our newer residents, she is still navigating the different levels of trust, but every day she grows more confident. She is sweet, she is a survivor, and most importantly, she is finally safe.

Aimee’s journey from a terrified, parasitic "slight of a girl" to a proud, healthy mother is exactly why we say: No animal is left behind.
