In a home that carries the quiet weight of senior rescues and the frequent "goodbyes" that come with working with SA Basset Adoptions, Demi arrived like a lightning bolt.

We originally contacted Castaways to find a long-term companion for young Bravey. He had seen too many senior friends come and go, and he needed a partner-in-crime who was here for the long haul. The shelter suggested a "small Jack Russell mix." Demi had other plans.

As it turns out, Demi is neither small nor a Jack Russell. With her tall, leggy frame and unmistakable Africanis heritage, she is a "tornado on four feet"—though it’s rare to see all four feet on the ground at the same time!

The "Demilicious" Standard

Demi has spent her time with us blissfully refusing to be "tamed" or "socially appropriate." Her resume of destruction is impressive:

• The Gourmet: She has a refined palate for spectacles and library books.

• The Interior Designer: She believes pillows and sheets are merely "suggestions" and prefers them shredded.

• The Athlete: She is in constant, 24/7 motion.

Yet, amidst the chaos, she provided exactly what Bravey and the sanctuary needed: unfiltered, relentless life. Because she loves Bravey so deeply, every chewed-up shoe is overlooked. Her tremendous energy lights up every corner of the house.

Just Being Demi

At the sanctuary, we believe in letting animals be exactly who they are. While we hope time eventually brings a dash of "wisdom," for now, we are happy to let Demilicious just be herself. Whether she’s barking at the donkeys, zooming through the yard, or demanding a cuddle, she reminds us all that life is meant to be lived at full throttle.
