Prosper

aka Pros/Prossy
Prosper
Prosper

This youngster was extremely tiny for her age when we met her. She had been taken away from her mom at too young an age and struggled to thrive. On top of this, she was an extremely introverted little girl and portrayed a bit of a mean streak regarding humans and other goats. It didn’t seem like she had known any kindness in her short life. We were not sure how much she would really grow but we named her “Prosper” because we hoped that she would at least eventually prosper emotionally.

We put her on top of the range goat feed with extra supplements and trace elements and started her rehabilitation. After a year it still felt like we didn’t make progress with little Pros, although she grew into a beautiful, stocky young goat; she still shied away from humans and animals alike. She would try to blend with the walls and use any barricade or animal as a shield to make sure we could not touch her.

I developed an extremely soft spot for this little girl though and refused to let it deter me. I would try and feed her snacks, touch her lightly whenever there was an opportunity and ask her, well beg her, to give me a chance to love her. I cannot put my finger on the exact day we turned a corner but after about two years Prosper started to warm up towards me allowing light touches at first with no hesitance, then coming to greet me when I was in their sleeping quarter. She eventually started nibbling my fingers and clothes, started to enjoy eating food from my hand and sometimes even a hug and a cuddle when she is in the mood.

Although Prosper is to this day not the snuggliest, warmest goat and harbours distrust to most humans she is confident and comfortable with our touch. My relationship with this lady goat is very special to me, she made me work for her affection but it was most assuredly worth it. Physically she has matured normally and beautifully and emotionally she is the true embodiment of having prospered. Love you, Pros!
