Fred & Frida

Updated: Apr 2

It started with a single picture: two dogs waiting in kennels for a new home. They had been handed a raw deal when their elderly owner passed away, leaving them surrendered and confused. Scared and unsure in the kennel environment, they were misunderstood by many—especially Fred, whose booming voice and impressive stature intimidated those who didn’t know him.

At that point, they weren’t considered an "adoptable" pair. I stepped in to fetch them, hoping to rehabilitate them for future adoption, but I was the one in for a surprise. They were the most loving souls I had ever encountered. We connected immediately; they finally felt safe, and I watched them simply melt into my embrace.

The rest, as they say, is history. I couldn't bear to see them disrupted again, and they became mine that very day. Frida became my "unicorn-hound" and the matriarch of my pack. Our bond ran deep; she knew my soul inside and out. Whether she was tucked by my side at home or waiting faithfully at the gate—through rain, sleet, or biting cold—she was always there. That excited expression on her face as I drove up made me rush home every single time.

Our "mammoth boy," Fred, succumbed to liver failure on 30 June 2025, leaving a massive void in our lives. Frida, who was already bravely battling cancer, crossed the rainbow bridge shortly after on 24 September 2025.

You were an extraordinary pair, and it was a profound honor to know, love, and care for you. Although the pain of your loss lingers, you deserve to run free, forever boundless and full of joy.
