Part of a group of neglected youngsters rescued from a local auction, Em arrived at Besida as the smallest and most vulnerable.

Heavily infested with parasites and struggling with a frail system, her first weeks were a battle. There were many long, quiet nights spent by her side, carefully managing her recovery and nursing her back to health.

But Em had a different plan for her future. She surprised us all by growing into a magnificent Boer goat with a presence that demands respect. Today, she stands second in line in our herd’s matriarchy, carrying her "duties" with an incredible sense of poise and quiet authority.

Despite her high ranking, Em is a soul of pure gentleness. She is the first to offer a cuddle and the last to turn down a treat. There is a profound sense of calm that settles over you just by being in her presence. Watching her gently discipline the new lambs and help manage the herd with such wisdom is a daily reminder of why we do this work. It is an absolute honor to have this amazing girl in our herd.
