Respect

aka Spekkie
Respect
Respect

Spekkie is the daughter of Inferno, who also resides with us. This little girl really struggled with internal parasites from about 4 months of age, and since she was already a small girl, this really took a toll on her body.

She was not responding to standard chemical interventions at all, and we had to find a way to save this girl. Worms are the silent goat killer, so this is a serious threat when it cannot be controlled.

We did a lot of research and found herbal interventions that worked for her.

After this aspect was eventually under control, Spekkie grew into a quiet and shy adult goat. When she met Devi (at that point 3 months old), the little sheep who was the origin of the Sanctuary, this all changed.

Spekkie, who was already 18 months old, immediately wanted to engage with Devi and moved away from her family system to spend time with him. They forged a strong friendship, which is not common between sheep and goats since they do not, in essence, speak the same language. Spekkie became more outgoing, more vocal, and clearly loved being able to teach little Devi the ropes.

She has grown from strength to strength since then, and although she will never be a big goat—since her mom was so very young when she gave birth to her—she turned into a healthy, happy, and even a little bit cheeky goat. Devi and Spekkie highlighted how marvellous nature can be and how an unexpected friendship could change a little goat girl’s life!
